The storm clouds have gathered around Jose Mourinho. Some might say they have never parted.

Now in his third season at Manchester United, all is not well ahead of their clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Away from the pitch, where United performed poorly to lose against Brighton in their last fixture, there are reports aplenty of a feud with vice chairman Ed Woodward, mainly in relation to the club's efforts in the transfer market.

Mourinho wanted a new centre-back during the summer, but neither Toby Alderweireld of Tottenham or Leicester City's Harry Maguire made it through the door leading to the manager warning of a "difficult season ahead".

He did bring in a third choice keeper in Lee Grant, spent nearly £20 million (Dh94.3m) on young full-back Diogo Dalot and splurged £55m on Brazilian midfielder Fred. Judging by his side's display against Brighton, Mourinho was right, they need more, though in that match defender Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof were the stand out weakness - and both were signed by him.

So, should Mourinho be trusted with more funds? Will he be around for long enough? And has he spent wisely so far?
