Premier League Team of the Week: Liverpool duo nail down spots; Arsenal and Spurs also make best XI

Goals galore this week as Liverpool’s James Milner and Sadio Made make the team, while Arsenal are represented by Hector Bellerin and Alexis Sanchez after the harrowing 90 minutes they gave Chelsea.

Goalkeeper: Artur Boruc (Bournemouth)

A brilliant early save from Romelu Lukaku was crucial in the 1-0 win over high-flying Everton on Saturday.

Right-back: Hector Bellerin (Arsenal)

An assist for Theo Walcott’s goal and a potentially goal-saving challenge on Pedro were the highlights of a fine display by the Arsenal defender.

Centre-back: Virgil van Dijk (Southampton)

A goal-line clearance denied Simone Zaza and ensured Southampton kept a clean sheet as they dominated against West Ham United.

Centre-back: Chris Smalling (Manchester United)

Wore the captain’s armband in Wayne Rooney’s absence and led by example as he scored in the rout of Leicester City.

Left-back: James Milner (Liverpool)

Not just for two superbly-converted penalties. Milner produced another hugely influential performance at left-back in the 5-1 win over Hull City.

Right winger: Sadio Mane (Liverpool)

Continued to make a considerable impact for his new club with one goal and a role in another as Jurgen Klopp’s side ran riot at Anfield.

Centre midfield: James McArthur (Crystal Palace)

Normally an unselfish worker, the Scot scored for the second successive week in the come-from-behind win at Sunderland.

Centre midfield: Paul Pogba (Manchester United)

Scored his first Manchester United goal with an emphatic header but also produced his best performance for the club.

Left winger: Son Heung-min (Tottenham Hotspur)

Has gone from fringe figure to pivotal rapidly and, for the second successive away game, scored twice and took his goals wonderfully.

Striker: Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

Scored one goal, made another and gave Chelsea’s defenders a harrowing evening as Arsenal secured a famous London derby win.

Striker: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City)

Marked his return from suspension in typically predatory fashion with two goals to maintain City’s 100 per cent record this season.
