Mason Greenwood's second-half brace sets up 3-1 home win

  MANCHESTER UNITED RATINGS: Dean Henderson - 5. Error after 14 seconds as he rushed out to meet a ball, called it wrong and the ball ended up in his net. His second half performance was as garish as the red cap he put on at half time to block the Mancunian sun. Reuters

  Aaron Wan-Bissaka - 6. Better going forward and less nervous. Crossed for Pogba after 9 but it was a rare attack. Booked. Had 112 touches – far more than any other player on the pitch. PA

  Victor Lindelof - 6. Looked appalled with those around him for Burnley’s goal, but he’s the type of player physical sides like Burnley try to unsettle. Reuters

  Harry Maguire - 6. Involved with Chris Wood right at the start, then outjumped and outmanoeuvred for the Burnley goal as United conceded yet again from a free-kick. He wasn’t the only one culpable. PA

  Luke Shaw - 6. Not up to his usual standards in the first half against a well-organised Burnley side who have an excellent record at Old Trafford, but an attacking threat throughout who is confident enough to try risky passes. EPA

  Scott McTominay - 6. His best moment was in the 89th minute when he drove forward and finished a move with Cavani – though the shot was saved. Made an important block in a Burnley counter attack with the score at 1-2. Getty

  Fred - 6. Taken off after a first half where United had 73% of possession but looked too defensive with it. Fred was the only player in the game with 100% pass completion rate but the Brazilian wasn’t passing forward and was part of the problem. EPA

  Paul Pogba - 7. Looping decent header after nine minutes which required a top save. Always tried to break down the obstinate Lancastrians and that perseverance prevailed. Set up Greenwood for the second with a long, accurate ball across the face of goal. AP

  Bruno Fernandes - 7. Shot well wide after 13. Smart dummy for United’s opener where he let the ball run to Greenwood. Wasted passes but never stopped looking for openings. Had a chance at the last blocked by a shoulder. AP

  Marcus Rashford - 7. Beautiful movement after three minutes to set up an attack and set up Fernandes after 13. Integral to the goal as he used pace and skill to beat his man before setting up Greenwood. Rashford can bring that magic. Like that touch before the goal in Granada or that run then to jolt a poor game into life. Getty

  Mason Greenwood - 9. Missed a chance in front of goal after Rashford put the ball on a plate and didn't meet another cross just before the break. He’s young, he’s learning and improving – and he got the first goal, side-footing in Rashford’s cross for a short-lived lead. Instinct won the game with a second after 83. On fire. Reuters

  SUBSTITUTES: Edinson Cavani - 7. In form but didn’t start. Brought on at half time to jump-start a dull match. The man with the best goals per minute ratio at the club did what he’s been doing a lot of and scored again. Getty

  Donny van de Beek - N/A. On for Rashford after 83. His 24th birthday present was Tarkwoski standing on his feet to get a booking after 89 minutes, but then the Dutchman set up Cavani for the third after 92 minutes. AFP

  BURNLEY RATINGS: Bailey Peacock-Farrell 6 - Couldn’t do anything about the deflected shot from Mason Greenwood which forced Burnley to change their approach late on. A good save denied McTominay to keep the Clarets in the game before Cavani’s close-range finish topped off a Manchester United counter-attack. Getty

  Matthew Lowton 7 - The Burnley right-back delivered dangerous crosses into the box throughout the game and was unlucky not to pick up an assist when finding Wood’s head on the half-hour mark. Defended well for the most part against a dangerous Rashford. PA

  Ben Mee 7 - Dealt with the majority of crosses coming into the box and was quick to react to balls played into the danger areas. Unlucky to be on the losing side today. AFP

  James Tarkowski 8 - United struggled to deal with the Burnley defender from set-pieces and he almost picked up an assist in the first half when flicking on towards Wood. Tarkowski then beat Maguire on a corner to head home Burnley's equaliser. Couldn't have played much better today. AP

  Charlie Taylor 5 - A lack of concentration close to half-time allowed Rashford to get in behind and the full-back didn’t learn his lesson as Greenwood appeared in a similar spot after the restart to score the opener. Should have also done better when defending against the shot which found the back of the net after giving away the corner which led to it. AP

  Dwight McNeil 6 - The English winger worked hard and was unlucky with a shot that looked goal-bound before it was blocked by his own teammate. The England Under 23 was also disciplined against the overlaps of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, though he could have got on the ball more in attacking situations. PA

  Ashley Westwood 7 - Played positively when looking to get Burnley moving forward and a strong delivery into the box put the ball in just the right spot for Tarkowski to level the scoring for the visitors. The experienced midfielder was always an option for passes to relieve pressure and defended well throughout. Getty

  Josh Brownhill 7 - Worked hard to support Chris Wood and had to hold the ball up on a number of occasions against multiple United defenders. The midfielder could have done more to get out the way of a McNeil effort that looked goal bound. AP

  Jack Cork 6 - Battled well in the centre of the park and was aggressive in tackles. United didn’t have too many chances coming through the middle on Sunday afternoon as a compact shape dissuaded attacks with Cork in the anchor role. Unlucky to see Greenwood’s shot deflect into the net after making the block. AP

  Johann Gudmundsson 6 - The Icelandic playmaker tried to get things moving for Burnley but couldn’t get going. A quiet display from the winger who can normally trouble defenders and threaten from range. AP

  Chris Wood 8 - Almost put Burnley ahead in the opening minute but for a marginal offside and won the majority of aerial duels. Despite being isolated for the majority of the game, the New Zealand target-man regularly brought the ball down from long passes and enabled Burnley to play in United’s third. One of Burnley’s best players on the day. Reuters

Mason Greenwood's second-half brace and a stoppage-time goal from Edinson Cavani helped Manchester United close the gap on Premier League leaders Manchester City to eight points with a 3-1 win over Burnley on Sunday.

It looked set to be a frustrating day for United as Greenwood’s 48th-minute opener was almost instantly canceled out by James Tarkowski.

But Greenwood’s deflected strike in the 84th minute put his team ahead before substitute Cavani put the result beyond doubt.
