  ENGLAND RATINGS: Nick Pope - 6: Question marks over distribution out from his feet with a number of poor kicks out in first half. Exposed after 15 minutes by Mount error that left Uzini with only Pope to beat but could only lift shot over bar. No saves to make for second game running. Reuters

  Kyle Walker - 7: Wasted early opportunity to pull cross back for Kane with England captain ready to fire at goal. England’s first shot on target straight at keeper after 33 minutes and was always looking to bomb forward. Booked in second half. AP

  Harry Maguire - 7: Played the out from the back well, although hardly put under much pressure by Albania either while in possession or defensively. EPA

  John Stones - 8: Headed Foden corner way over bar in first 10 minutes. Cool and calm from start to finish and Southgate must be delighted to have Stones back in form and looking confident again. AP

  Luke Shaw - 7: First cap since 2018, looked like he was going to be a force down the left in opening 10 minutes but, like England in general, seemed to then hold back. But it was his inch-perfect cross to Kane that put England on their way. AFP

  Kalvin Phillips - 6: Neat, tidy and generally accurate with his passing but combination with Rice in middle of park didn’t work – and not for the first time in England colours. EPA

  Declan Rice - 7: Completely missed header when presented with great chance from Foden cross after half an hour. Tried to orchestrate proceedings and drive team forward from centre but needs a more creative player alongside him than Phillips. Reuters

  Mason Mount - 8: Dreadful under-hit pass to send Albania away on counter-attack after 13 minutes that better side would have punished. Decent run and cross down right that almost presented England with chance 15 minutes later. Played his part in opening goal and finished second himself with excellent calm finish into corner. AFP

  Phil Foden - 7: Started down left flank but would regularly swap sides with Manchester City teammate Sterling. Not usual attacking threat in first half but stepped up gear after break. Denied goal five minutes into second half when low shot was turned onto post by goalkeeper. AFP

  Raheem Sterling - 7: Had been quiet for much of opening period until superb curling cross to put chance on plate for Kane just before half-time, only for his captain to hit the bar. Frustrated by quick-thinking Albania keeper who came out quickly to deny Sterling shot on goal after half-time. PA

  Harry Kane - 8: Wonderful header into corner from Shaw cross to open scoring with his first England goal since November 2019. Could, and should, have had another minutes later when he hit the bar with shot from inside six-yard box. Caught by surprise just after break when cross landed at his feet and he hit first-time shot over. Supplied assist for Mount goal. Booked for sliding in to try and grab a second in second half. Harry Kane ended his six-game England goal drought as he inspired a 2-0 win against Albania in Sunday's World Cup qualifier.

Gareth Southgate's side struggled to break down the well-organised underdogs until the Tottenham Hotspur striker netted late in the first half at the Air Albania Stadium in Tirana.

It was the England captain's first international goal since he scored against Kosovo nearly 500 days ago in November 2019.

Back in the starting line-up after being rested for Thursday's 5-0 demolition of San Marino, Kane now has 33 goals in 52 England appearances.

Kane also set up Mason Mount's second half goal as England made it two successive Group I victories on the road to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

England finish their qualifying triple-header with a clash against Poland at Wembley on Wednesday that will be billed as a shoot-out between Kane and Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski.
