  CHELSEA RATINGS: Edouard Mendy 7 – Mendy had two saves to make, both late in the game, and this after having had virtually nothing to do for the rest of the match. On both occasions, he kept Joao Felix at bay. AFP

  Cesar Azpilicueta 7 – Did well to contain Joao Felix for the most part, though he was lucky not to have given away a penalty when he brought down Carrasco following his own under-hit back pass. AP

  Kurt Zouma 7 – Brought in to replace the injured Andreas Christensen, and didn’t put a foot wrong at the back. AP

  Antonio Rudiger 8 – Won his duel with Luis Suarez to the extent that the Uruguayan was substituted before the end without having made any impact on the game. Rudiger came close to a goal too, but his shot fired just wide. AP

  N’Golo Kante 8 – This was Kante at his absolute best, a human wall that kept Atletico at bay and who hounded them every time they had the ball. It was from his challenge and pass to Christian Pulisic at the death that Chelsea grabbed a second. Getty

  Marcos Alonso 6 – He looked dangerous in the Atletico half and loved getting forward, on one occasion going on a mazy run before passing across the pitch. Had little to do defensively. EPA

  Hakim Ziyech 7 – Opened the scoring when he ran in support of Timo Werner on the counter, and was rewarded with a free shot on goal, which he slotted home. Could have had a second too, forcing Oblak into a fine save. PA

  Kai Havertz 7 – A display of tidy flicks and incisive passing, it was from his pass that Chelsea broke free to open the scoring. Was quiet in the second half, but this was much better from the German midfielder. EPA

  ATLETICO MADRID RATINGS: Jan Oblak 7 – Was left exposed by his defence for both goals, but he made several saves to prevent a bigger scoreline. PA

  Kieran Trippier 5 – The right-back had played three matches in 10 days coming into this one, and he was taken off before the end, replaced by the more attacking Lemar. EPA

  Stefan Savic 4 – The defender was shown a straight red following an elbow on Antonio Rudiger during an Atletico corner. His dismissal made mission impossible even harder. EPA

  Jose Maria Gimenez 5 – Back after missing the first leg, he could do little to defend Chelsea’s counter attacks. Atletico’s back line left a lot of space for the Blues to exploit. EPA

  Renan Lodi 4 – He was booked for a late lunge on Reece James, and he had a tough evening trying to stop the England international’s forays forward. AP

  Marcos Llorente 6 – One of the few Atletico players to emerge with any credit. On one occasion he broke free on the right and provided a teasing cross across the face of goal, but there was no one there to convert. EPA

  Koke 5 – Koke was outsmarted by Chelsea’s midfield unit. He was unable to get past Kovacic and Kante, and sometimes left his defence exposed. PA

  Saul Niguez 4 – It was a frustrating night for Saul, who was booked for a lunge on Havertz in the second half and generally looked off the pace. EPA

  Yannick Carrasco 4 – Back after missing the first leg, but didn’t see much of the ball. He tucked inside in an effort to try and get more involved, but he was marked out of the game by James and later substituted. PA

  Joao Felix 6 – The 21-year old showed some nice touches and had two good chances to score, though both efforts found Mendy equal to his efforts. Reuters

  Luis Suarez 4 – Suarez was believed to have left the ground in anger. It’s little wonder; he had no scoring chances and was marked out of the game by Rudiger and Zouma. EPA

  Thomas Lemar (Trippier, 69) 5 – The talented 25-year-old didn’t get much of an opportunity to get on the ball, with Chelsea cruising at the point at which he came on. EPA

Manager Thomas Tuchel says Chelsea should fear no one in the Champions League after  securing a place in the quarter-finals for the first time since 2014 with a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid.

Goals from Hakim Ziyech and Emerson Palmieri helped Chelsea complete a 3-0 aggregate win and extended their unbeaten run to 13 games in all competitions since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard as coach in January.

Holders Bayern Munich and Premier League leaders Manchester City are among the sides left in the competition, with the draw to be made on Friday, but Tuchel said Chelsea earned their place among Europe's elite.

"The most important thing is we deserve this," Tuchel said. "They play with a special bond and results like this give you a certain edge to achieve special things.

"I'm sure no one wants to play against us. This will be a difficult challenge. But on we go, no need to be afraid. We take what we get."
