Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski will make his debut at the Dubai International Sports Conference on Sunday.

The Poland international, the newly crowned Fifa men’s player of the year, has been confirmed as one of the guest speakers at the event, which takes place at Armani Hotel in Burj Khalifa.

Lewandowski will also be present at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards that follow directly afterwards at the same venue, where he is nominated for best player of 2020 alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

This year’s Dubai International Sports Conference, organised once more by Dubai Sports Council, will be run under the theme “Football at the Summit” and feature a number of prominent names from the football world. Announcements on other speakers and attendees are to come this week.

Held since 2006, Sunday’s event will take place with strict Covid-19 precautions and protocols in place, as mandated by Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management.

Lewandowski, 32, is favourite for the best player award, since he arrives in Dubai on the back of a superb year, both individually and with Bayern. The prolific frontman, regarded by many as currently the finest “No 9” in the game, scored 55 goals in 47 matches last season to fire his club to a treble: the Bundesliga, German Cup and the Uefa Champions League. Lewandowski finished top scorer in all three competitions.

His fine form has continued into this campaign, with Lewandowski notching 17 league goals to once more help Bayern to the top of the domestic standings.

Last week, he was named Fifa’s men’s player of the year, ahead of Ronaldo and Messi. In winning, Lewandowski became the first Pole, and the first player representing a German club, to land the award since its inception in 1991.

Three ways to limit your social media use

Clinical psychologist, Dr Saliha Afridi at The Lighthouse Arabia suggests three easy things you can do every day to cut back on the time you spend online.

1. Put the social media app in a folder on the second or third screen of your phone so it has to remain a conscious decision to open, rather than something your fingers gravitate towards without consideration.

2. Schedule a time to use social media instead of consistently throughout the day. I recommend setting aside certain times of the day or week when you upload pictures or share information.

3. Take a mental snapshot rather than a photo on your phone. Instead of sharing it with your social world, try to absorb the moment, connect with your feeling, experience the moment with all five of your senses. You will have a memory of that moment more vividly and for far longer than if you take a picture of it.
