The Premier League took the first tentative steps towards Project Restart as players returned to their clubs for training on Tuesday.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson was one of several to arrive at Melwood to take part in small groups of players alongside the likes Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson and fellow midfielder Fabinho.

Tottenham Hotspur players including Jan Vertonghen and Lucas Moura arrived at the North London club's training centre.

As part of Project Restart, players must practise social distancing at all times, the league said, with contact training not permitted at this stage.

Players will be asked to use an app on a daily basis to record any symptoms.

Clubs voted unanimously to resume training in groups of up to five and chief executive Richard Masters said they hope they can play again on June 12, though that date may be moved back, as the drawn-out, controversial process continues and more difficult decisions were postponed until another day.
