West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has backed teammate Michail Antonio to come back “stronger” from his horror car crash.
Bowen said that Saturday’s news that Antonio had been involved in a road traffic accident in Essex had everyone at the club fearing the worst. Unverified pictures of Antonio's mangled Ferrari were circulating on social media before the club intervened and made a statement.
Thankfully, West Ham were able to confirm he was in a stable condition, conscious and communicating, by Saturday evening.
The 34-year-old striker has since undergone surgery on a broken leg, but reports suggest he still faces weeks in hospital recovering from multiple injuries.
“It has been one of those things you never think you will be involved in,” Bowen told Sky Sports after scoring the winner in a vital 2-1 victory over Wolves on Monday night to ease the pressure on his manager Julen Lopetegui following a poor run of results.
“Everyone loves Mich, he is a big character and waiting for news on the Saturday was difficult. He is not just a teammate, he is a friend and has been for many years. A dad as well to beautiful children.
“I just want to say thank you for all the support from everyone. As captain I’ve seen all the messages and support Mich has got. It is one of those things where life is bigger than football. The main thing is Mich is safe and well and here to tell the story. Saturday was a really difficult time.
“He is a warrior and a fighter, he always has been, and I know he will be back stronger for this.”
West Ham boss Lopetegui added: “It’s a miracle, looking at the pictures of the car. The most important thing is the person, the father, the dad, the son that he is, and these are the most important things about Mich.
“He has undergone surgery yesterday and after let’s see about [how long he will be out for]. We talked with him today and we are happy for him, despite, for sure, (the fact) he has suffered a lot.”
West Ham’s squad warmed up in 'Antonio 9' shirts ahead of their match against Wolves to show support for their stricken teammate.
The shirts will be signed by all the players, including Antonio, and auctioned off, with proceeds going to the NHS and Air Ambulances UK.
West Ham said: “Everyone at the club would like to reiterate their heartfelt thanks to the first responders, emergency services, air ambulance staff and the NHS for the incredible support given to Michail in the wake of the accident.”
West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady, speaking in the House of Lords on Monday, said: “It was a real shock to me on Saturday when I received a call from the police about his car accident, but I am pleased to report that he has had an operation and is recovering well.
“And I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the NHS staff, all of the emergency services including the air ambulance and firefighters who cut him free from his car.”
In a showdown dubbed 'El Sackico' due to the intense scrutiny surrounding the futures of Lopetegui and Wolves boss Gary O'Neil, it was the Hammers chief who earned some much-needed breathing space thanks to Bowen's moment of magic.
Bowen bagged a priceless winner in the second half at the London Stadium, just moments after Wolves defender Matt Doherty had cancelled out Tomas Soucek's opener. West Ham's first win in three games lifted them nine points clear of the relegation zone, while second bottom Wolves remain four points adrift of safety after their 10th defeat in 15 league matches.

What is graphene?
Graphene is extracted from graphite and is made up of pure carbon.
It is 200 times more resistant than steel and five times lighter than aluminum.
It conducts electricity better than any other material at room temperature.
It is thought that graphene could boost the useful life of batteries by 10 per cent.

How the UAE gratuity payment is calculated now
Employees leaving an organisation are entitled to an end-of-service gratuity after completing at least one year of service.
The tenure is calculated on the number of days worked and does not include lengthy leave periods, such as a sabbatical. If you have worked for a company between one and five years, you are paid 21 days of pay based on your final basic salary. After five years, however, you are entitled to 30 days of pay. The total lump sum you receive is based on the duration of your employment.
1. For those who have worked between one and five years, on a basic salary of Dh10,000 (calculation based on 30 days):
a. Dh10,000 ÷ 30 = Dh333.33. Your daily wage is Dh333.33
b. Dh333.33 x 21 = Dh7,000. So 21 days salary equates to Dh7,000 in gratuity entitlement for each year of service. Multiply this figure for every year of service up to five years.
2. For those who have worked more than five years
c. 333.33 x 30 = Dh10,000. So 30 days’ salary is Dh10,000 in gratuity entitlement for each year of service.
Note: The maximum figure cannot exceed two years total salary figure.

Important questions to consider
1. Where on the plane does my pet travel?
There are different types of travel available for pets:
- Manifest cargo
- Excess luggage in the hold
- Excess luggage in the cabin
Each option is safe. The feasibility of each option is based on the size and breed of your pet, the airline they are traveling on and country they are travelling to.
2. What is the difference between my pet traveling as manifest cargo or as excess luggage?
If traveling as manifest cargo, your pet is traveling in the front hold of the plane and can travel with or without you being on the same plane. The cost of your pets travel is based on volumetric weight, in other words, the size of their travel crate.
If traveling as excess luggage, your pet will be in the rear hold of the plane and must be traveling under the ticket of a human passenger. The cost of your pets travel is based on the actual (combined) weight of your pet in their crate.
3. What happens when my pet arrives in the country they are traveling to?
As soon as the flight arrives, your pet will be taken from the plane straight to the airport terminal.
If your pet is traveling as excess luggage, they will taken to the oversized luggage area in the arrival hall. Once you clear passport control, you will be able to collect them at the same time as your normal luggage. As you exit the airport via the ‘something to declare’ customs channel you will be asked to present your pets travel paperwork to the customs official and / or the vet on duty.
If your pet is traveling as manifest cargo, they will be taken to the Animal Reception Centre. There, their documentation will be reviewed by the staff of the ARC to ensure all is in order. At the same time, relevant customs formalities will be completed by staff based at the arriving airport.
4. How long does the travel paperwork and other travel preparations take?
This depends entirely on the location that your pet is traveling to. Your pet relocation compnay will provide you with an accurate timeline of how long the relevant preparations will take and at what point in the process the various steps must be taken.
In some cases they can get your pet ‘travel ready’ in a few days. In others it can be up to six months or more.
5. What vaccinations does my pet need to travel?
Regardless of where your pet is traveling, they will need certain vaccinations. The exact vaccinations they need are entirely dependent on the location they are traveling to. The one vaccination that is mandatory for every country your pet may travel to is a rabies vaccination.
Other vaccinations may also be necessary. These will be advised to you as relevant. In every situation, it is essential to keep your vaccinations current and to not miss a due date, even by one day. To do so could severely hinder your pets travel plans.
