Tottenham v Chelsea player ratings: Skipp 9, Kane 8; Sterling 7, Havertz 5

Spurs claim a 2-0 Premier League victory over their rivals to boost their top four hopes

  TOTTENHAM PLAYER RATINGS: Fraser Forster, 7 – Showed strong wrists to palm down a speculative effort from Felix before denying Sterling’s curling strike with another smart stop. Raced off his line to bravely claim Felix’s slipped pass at the feet of Havertz. EPA

  Cristian Romero, 7 – Revitalised. Oozed calmness, exemplified when he cheekily poked the ball through the legs of Havertz on the edge of his own box, and he read the danger brilliantly to get his body in the way of the German who was hunting for scraps. Getty

  Eric Dier, 7 – Effective if not subtle. Lucky to escape a booking after a crunching challenge on Felix, but stood his ground well against the same man after the break with a strong block as the Blues spurned another opportunity. Flicked on to Kane for 2-0. AP

  Clement Lenglet, 6 – A quiet afternoon compared to those around him, but he played his part in securing back-to-back clean sheets to delight Spurs supporters and frustrate Chelsea’s superstars who once again struggled to create. EPA

  Emerson Royal, 8 – Tireless and tidy in a solid display. Showed brilliant resolve to get back on the right side of Chilwell and make a crucial sliding challenge, and that set the tone for his performance. Almost caused a Royal rumble when he barged into the back of Ziyech. AFP

  Oliver Skipp, 9 – A couple of clumsy moments early on, including a scare when he clipped Sterling in the box, but he took the roof off with an absolute thunderbolt. Not a bad way to open your Premier League account, and it capped a fine individual display. Getty

  Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, 7 – Came within inches of the opening goal when his tame strike took a wicked deflection and span into the post with Kepa well-beaten. Picked out the run of Davies with a lovely, dissecting clip forward as Spurs grew in confidence. Reuters

  Ben Davies, 6 – Booked for catching Loftus-Cheek cynically. Did brilliantly to charge down Hojbjerg’s pass right on the byline and hook the ball into the box, but his cross was cleared. Reuters

  Dejan Kulusevski, 7 – Involved in some seamless exchanges with Emerson. Didn’t see too much of the ball in dangerous areas but created space around him in a typically intelligent display. EPA

  Richarlison, 6 – Cut a frustrated figure at times and was sent for a hot dog by Sterling, but he helped create the opening goal when he poked the ball into the path of Hojbjerg. Constantly hustled and harassed blue shirts, and fired just over with 15 minutes to go. EPA

  Harry Kane, 8 – Efficient. Sparked Spurs into life when he dummied a shot only to thread the ball through the legs of James. Dropped deep and linked up the play superbly in true Harry Kane fashion, and he calmly tapped home to equal Jimmy Greaves’ Spurs tally. AFP

  Son Heung-Min (Kulusevski 79’), NR – Yet another instant impact from the spectacular South Korean who saw his corner flicked on by Dier and scooped home by captain Kane. EPA

  CHELSEA PLAYER RATINGS: Kepa Arrizabalaga, 5 – Paid the price for teasing the home fans when he was bundled over by the slightly overzealous Kane. Couldn’t produce a hand strong enough to stop Skipp’s rocket having spilled a soft Emerson effort moments earlier. AFP

  Reece James, 6 – Added some much-needed balance on that right-hand side and ensured Richarlison didn’t have the chance to add more gloss onto the scoreline with an important flick at the back post. EPA

  Thiago Silva, 5 – A disappointing early exit for the experienced defender who limped off inside 19 minutes, having earlier avoided detection after an apparent elbow into the chest of Romero as he challenged for the ball. EPA

  Kalidou Koulibaly, 6 – A decent performance from the towering centre-back who prevented further damage with a couple of big interceptions, including an important foot to snuff out a low pull-back from Emerson. AFP

  Ben Chilwell, 5 – Started with James for only the third time in 50 games. Involved in a thoroughly enjoyable battle with Emerson on the Chelsea left, but the Spurs man had the better of it. Lost his cool somewhat ironically as Stuart Atwell rushed in to prevent a further scuffle. AP

  Ruben Loftus-Cheek, 4 – A quiet opening 45 from the physical midfielder, who failed to match the intensity and desire of Skipp and was replaced just past the hour mark. PA

  Enzo Fernandez, 6 – Couldn’t quite pick out Felix with a brilliant clipped ball over the top that had just a touch too much on it. Saw a decent strike well-blocked but he could only half-clear his lines as Tottenham produced a Skipp and a thump to open the scoring. Reuters

  Hakim Ziyech, 4 – Seemingly booked, dismissed, then booked again for thrusting a ridiculous hand into the face of Royal in a moment of madness and confusion all round. Somehow he stayed on the pitch, but he failed to make it count and was withdrawn after 62 minutes. AFP

  Raheem Sterling, 7 – Ran his socks off. Caused problems with his speed and ability to shift inside, and showed a commendable work rate when he stormed back to pick the pocket of Emerson. Tested Forster from distance but not enough of his teammates matched his energy. Reuters

  Joao Felix, 7 – Always looked like the man most likely to produce a moment of magic; he just needed another blue shirt on his brilliant wavelength. Stung the palms of Forster with a strike from range and squandered a big opportunity when the ball got stuck under his feet. AFP

  Kai Havertz, 5 – Produced some tidy link-up play but he never really had a clear sight of goal and didn’t do enough to threaten Forster’s clean sheet. Booked for his role in a melee sparked by Richarlison, Ziyech and Emerson. Getty

  Wesley Fofana (Silva 19’), 6 – An early introduction for the former Leicester man and earnt his luck when his outstretched boot diverted Hojbjerg’s strike into the post. AFP

  Mason Mount (Ziyech 62’), 6 – Went into the book for protesting a little too loudly after Romero lunged in on Havertz. A frustrating half-hour or so for the Chelsea academy graduate, PA

Tottenham Hotspur beat Chelsea 2-0 in the Premier League on Sunday with second-half goals from Oliver Skipp and Harry Kane keeping Spurs in the hunt for a top-four finish and extending the Blues' miserable run under coach Graham Potter.

Seconds after the break, Skipp picked up a clearance by Chelsea's British record signing Enzo Fernandez and fired in from more than 20 yards, his shot going in off the bar after Kepa Arrizabalaga could not get enough of a hand on it.

Kane secured the three points for Spurs when he pounced at the far post after a corner by Son Heung-min was flicked on by Eric Dier in the 82nd minute.

Chelsea, who failed to score for fourth time in five league games despite spending around 300 million pounds ($358 million)on players in January alone, failed to create any clear-cut chances to get themselves back into the game.

The win - the first for the hosts in nine league games against Chelsea - kept Spurs fourth in the table, four points ahead of fifth-placed Newcastle United who have played two games less.

Chelsea sit in 10th position, 14 points behind Spurs. Potter's side have now won only two games in their last 15 in all competitions.
