Catalans secure 2-0 win at Camp Nou in Pique's final match to move top of La Liga

BARCELONA PLAYER RATINGS: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen – 7. Saved the game’s best chance of the first half on 28, rushing from his goal to meet Ramazani’s shot. Aside from that, the players in front of him had 70 per cent possession, 16 shots and eight corners. And that was just the first half. Yet another clean sheet. AFP

Alejandro Balde – 8. Still a teen and playing in either full-back position. Here he was at right-back, from where he attacked throughout. Needs to improve final ball. EPA

Gerard Pique – 9. His final ever game at Camp Nou saw a full house, with fans in song for him and flags flown. Had a 12th minute header go over, but it was his best performance of the season. Cheered every time he touched the ball. Tears in his eyes after he left the pitch with six minutes to play. What a career. EPA

Marcos Alonso – 6. Played alongside Pique as a central defender. Unlikely he’ll do the same when the other central defenders are fit. Not top level in that position but his side still kept another clean sheet. EPA

Jordi Alba – 8. Fine footwork and a shot on goal from Barca’s No 18 on 18 minutes. Tried an acrobatic overhead kick on 33. Crossed towards Torres two minutes later as the Catalans dominated. Put the cross in which led to the second goal. AFP

Sergio Busquets – 7. Handed his captain’s armband to Pique and dictated much of the play against La Liga’s 12th-placed team. Sublime long pass found Dembele, who scored the first goal. EPA

Frenkie De Jong – 8. Gave the ball away to set up Almeria’s best first half attack – a half which ended after he’d taken a shot on target himself. Slammed in the second in from close, his first goal at Camp Nou for almost two years. His 11 goals since were all away from home. Reuters

Pedri – 7. His 45th minute header was on target but well saved. Linked well with Dembele. Attacked, defended. A reason Barcelona have attracted huge crowds – a 92,605 sell-out against Almeria on Saturday night. AP

Ousmane Dembele – 7. Inspired and infuriating in the same gane. Lively in the first half, he headed against the goalkeeper from close range on 41. Booked. Took a 48th minute Busquets pass, went past two men and shot to put his side ahead – his third goal in five home games. Took too many chances on a 57th minute attempt when the goalkeeper was beaten. Robert Lewandowski – 6. Took a third minute penalty. Badly. He staggered his run up. Turned a beautiful ball towards Torres on 41 and headed wide 30 seconds later. AP

Ferran Torres – 6. His 30th minute drive from 12 metres was saved on the line. He couldn’t get enough on to another kick from an Alba cross. Set up Dembele on 41. Booked after nine. Off after 60 – and looked frustrated after another game without a goal. AFP

SUBS: Ansu Fati (Torres 60’) – 6. Turned 20 last week and had a shot on target with his first touch within two minutes, which was saved and then put in the net by De Jong. Had another shot saved on 64. A 73rd minute volley was saved, too. Put the ball in the next but was offside. Reuters

Barcelona enjoyed a 2-0 win over Almeria with second-half goals from Ousmane Dembele and Frenkie de Jong in an emotional game on Saturday that will be remembered as long-serving defender Gerard Pique's last at the Camp Nou after he announced his retirement.

Barca now top La Liga on 34 points from 13 games, two ahead of Real Madrid who visit Rayo Vallecano on Monday.

After missing several chances in the first-half, including a penalty for a handball that Robert Lewandowski put wide, Dembele broke the deadlock right after the break, slotting a precise shot into the bottom corner from a counter-attack.

In the 62nd minute, De Jong was well positioned inside the area to score off a rebound from the goalkeeper.

The 35-year-old Pique started the game as captain for Barca, having won 30 trophies, including three Champions League and eight La Liga titles, with the Catalans.

He was substituted in the 83rd minute, walking off the pitch in tears to a standing ovation from the 92,605 fans that packed the stadium to say goodbye to a club great.
