Catalans earn late 3-2 win at Estadio Ciudad de Valencia to climb back into second in La Liga

BARCELONA PLAYER RATINGS: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen – 7. Superb ball forward to Torres on 20 and excellent save from Morales on 26. Went the wrong way for Morales’ penalty and the opening goal. Saved the second penalty – struck centrally – on 55. Comfortable save from Son on 74 but couldn’t stop the third penalty on 82. AFP

Dani Alves – 5. Gave the ball away in the first half to set up an attack for a highly motivated bottom of the table Levante. Rolled his ankle, gave the first penalty away and crossed poorly when he went forward. Difficult night against Levante’s best player, Morales. AFP

Eric Garcia – 7. Cleared the ball off the line on 26 as the momentum was with Levante. Played well, but gave the second penalty away on 54 with a handball. AFP

Ronald Araujo – 7. Magnificent goal line defending on 28 kept the score at 0-0. Switched to right back when Lenglet came on. Booked for a late challenge and will miss the next game. EPA

Jordi Alba – 6. Saw so much of the ball and made five key passes. Saved the best moment until last, a 92nd minute cross to the neat post and substitute Luuk de Jong who headed in Barça’s winner in a 3-2 thriller. AFP

Frenkie De Jong – 6. Shot over in the first minute but came off after 57 and missed much of the drama: Real Madrid were awarded three penalties last weekend, Levante three against Barcelona this. Getty

Sergio Busquets – 7. So much of the game goes through him and little wonder why Xavi said he’ll be impossible to replace. AFP

Ferran Torres – 7. Shot against keeper on 20 and again on 41. Neither were a threat, but they were the only shots on target in the first half. Headed on target after 49. Four efforts on target, more than anyone on the field. Getty

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 7. Almost nothing, then headed in a 59th minute equaliser with fine movement to win Dembele’s cross. It’s a fruitful combination. AFP

Ousmane Dembele – 8. In form, but a quiet first half. Brilliant cross from the right after 49 to Torres and again on 58 to set up Aubameyang with another assist – his 11th in 10 league starts. AFP

SUBS: Pedri (Nico 56’) – 8. Passed to Dembele to set up the equaliser within two minutes, the put his side ahead with a sweeping shot on 63. Perfect passes, penetration, power. Hit a shot over on 80. Determined to get a winner and played a part in it, losing a boot as he did. AP

Gavi (De Jong 56’) – 6. Set up Pedri after a fine run on 63 as Barça turned it around. Slid through and had a one-on-one effort saved after 88 mins. AFP

Luuk de Jong (Aubameyang 84) – 8. Shot towards goal on 90, but the effort smashed into Pedri. Got into positions, got onto the end of balls – like for the winner with a header on 92. EPA

Luuk de Jong headed in a 92nd-minute winner on Sunday as Barcelona prevailed in a five-goal thriller against Levante to return to second in La Liga.

De Jong's late goal, his sixth in the league for Barca, proved the decisive moment in a 3-2 victory in Valencia but it was the introduction of the 19-year-old Pedri off the bench that turned the momentum of the contest.

A frantic 11 minutes early in the second half saw Levante score one penalty in the 52nd minute through Jose Luis Morales before missing a second in the 55th, this time Roger Marti stepping up, only to be denied by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

Pedri came off the bench in the 56th minute and three minutes later Barcelona equalised, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang heading in Ousmane Dembele's cross to score his 10th goal for his new club.

Then in the 63rd minute, Pedri fired Barca in front with a first-time finish into the corner, only for Levante to level again after being awarded a third penalty, Gonzalo Melero this time making no mistake.

Levante looked set to claim a point but De Jong snatched the win, meeting Jordi Alba's cross and heading in at the near post.

Barca climb back above Sevilla into second, still 12 points behind Real Madrid, who eased to a 2-0 victory over Getafe on Saturday.

Xavi Hernandez's side have a game in hand over Real Madrid, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid, with Atletico three points behind in fourth after losing on Saturday away at Mallorca.
