Fellingham and team take the honours

DUBAI // Two shotgun tournaments to mark UAE National Day produced some excellent scoring at Dubai Creek, particularly in the afternoon event in which the winning stableford score was a sizzling 87 points. That total was posted by the team of John Fellingham, Tejan Fadlu-deen, Paul King and Joel Neale who comfortably surpassed the morning score of 81 accumulated by the quartet of Craig Finlayson, Simon Shirreffs, Richie Davidson and Craig McLovin.

The morning prizes had to be settled on countback after Emiliano Dernasconi, Arshad Waheed, Eka Onggo and MR Rajalekha also posted an 81. They had to be satisfied with the runners-up place, one point ahead of the team of Kevin Roy, Sattm Rehman, Patrick Mulligan and Shomail Ghaub. The margin of victory in the more favourable afternoon conditions was two points. Dileep Kumar, Arvind Kittur, Sunil Oharan, Raj Janakdhan chased home the winners with Khalid Yousuf, Saeed Malik, Dino Varkey and Jay Varkey finishing third, a point behind.

Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, the chairman of the Emirates Golf Federation, and Saeed Albudoor, the general manager, presented the prizes. Over 200 players took part reflecting the growing profile of the tournament, the organisers said. wjohnson@thenational.ae
