Ranked: From Mercedes to Sauber, how did the 2018 Formula One teams rate?

Ahead of the season finale in Abu Dhabi an assessment of how the 10 teams on the grid have performed

  10th. Williams 3/10. Sad to see one of the dominant forces of F1 in the past struggling so much. A mixture of a poor car and inexperienced drivers has made for a chastening year for the British team with only three points finishes, and seven points in total, to their name. Getty Images

  9th. McLaren 4/10. Perhaps a little harsh, considering they are sixth in the standings, but they have faded as the year has gone on. Their race-winning days feel a long time ago with both Fernando Alonso and Stoffel Vandoorne slogging an average car around in a pretty thankless task. AFP

  8th. Toro Rosso 5/10. At times they have been great, with Pierre Gasly's fourth place in Bahrain a stunning effort. A mixture of driver inexperience, teething problems with their new relationship with Honda, and the form of their rivals means it has been an up and down season. Getty Images

  7th. Force India 5/10. Given their financial dramas off the track, which led to the team being reformed under new owners in August after going into administration, it has been a solid season. Sergio Perez's third in Azerbaijan apart, however, the results have largely been underwhelming. AFP

  6th. Renault 5/10. Set to be fourth in the constructors' standings, which is effectively the Class B winner given Mercedes, Ferrari and Red Bull have been in a private duel at the front. Benefited from mistakes from Haas and the financial problems from Force India to be there, given their inconsistent pace at times. Getty Images

  5th. Haas 6/10. The American team's best season in F1 yet. Silly mistakes from their drivers, particularly Romain Grosjean, have cost them points along the way, but 18 top-10 finishes highlights just how consistent they have been. AFP

  4th. Sauber 7/10. They are actually eighth in the constructors' standings, but the Swiss win the award for most improved team in 2018. Their 42 points is only one less then they scored in the previous four seasons combined. Getty Images

  3rd. Red Bull Racing 7/10. Like Ferrari an impressive year in terms of their four triumphs being their best performance for five years. They have largely been the third quickest team for much of the year but have been good at making their chances to shine at the front count. AFP

  2nd. Ferrari 8/10. Best year, in terms of wins for 10 years, with six victories. Yet, it still feels like it should have been better. A combination of driver error and mistakes from the team means a golden chance to beat Mercedes to the silverware went begging. AFP

  1st. Mercedes-GP 9/10. Did not have it their own way and had to dig deep to take the double of the constructors' championship and Lewis Hamilton winning his fifth drivers' title. Remain a consistent force who usually get the maximum out of their package at every race. Getty Images

For the 10 teams in Formula One the gruelling season is almost.

A campaign that began eight months ago in Australia comes to a close on Sunday with the tenth staging of the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Mercedes-GP, for the fifth successive year, have taken the silverware as they won the constructors' championship to go alongside the drivers' title claimed by their driver Lewis Hamilton.

But how did the rest of the field fare? In a year when Ferrari and Red Bull Racing were the only other teams to win a race other then Mercedes, top finishes were hard for the rest to come by.

But, there were still some impressive displays by some, while others underachieved.
