The European Championships is the ideal stage for a footballer to make the headlines. Here are some players who could be household names by the time the tournament ends in July
1 Andriy Yarmolenko (Ukraine)
The forward had to deal with the pressure of being labelled "the new Andriy Shevchenko" as a 17 year old. But, now 22, he plays in the same Dynamo Kiev team as the Ukraine legend and will also be one of the co-hosts' key attacking elements at the tournament. Unlike Shevchenko, he plays more on the flank or behind the striker.
2 Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (England)
The joker in England's pack is Oxlade-Chamberlain, the 18-year-old Arsenal winger who won his first cap last week. With the starting spots in England's wide positions far from decided, Oxlade-Chamberlain's pace and raw ability could favour him. Either way, he could end up being a match winner from the bench.
3 Olivier Giroud (France)
Karim Benzema will likely start up front for France, but Giroud is pushing for a place in the team. His 21 goals led Montpellier to a surprise title win in France this season. And he impressed when he came off the bench with France 2-0 down against Iceland to provide two assists in a 3-2 win last week. Bayern Munich and Arsenal are just two suitors.
4 Rasmus Elm (Sweden)
Elm's energy in the middle of the park will be a driving force for an ageing team -five of their likely starters are 30 or over. Elm scored 10 goals in the Dutch Eredivisie for AZ Alkmaar, as their title challenge fell short, and will look to make the same impact for Sweden.
