English FA to investigate allegations Suarez racially abused Evra

The English Football Association (FA) will investigate allegations that Patrice Evra, the Manchester United defender, was racially abused by Luis Suarez, the Liverpool striker, in yesterday's Premier League match at Anfield.

Evra is reported to have told media in his native France last night that Suarez directed racist insults at him during the 1-1 draw.

The left-back was quoted as telling French TV station Canal Plus: "There are cameras, you can see him [Suarez] say a certain word to me at least 10 times."

The FA then confirmed that they are examining the claims after Andre Marriner, the match referee, was also made aware of them.

"The Football Association have this evening been made aware of an incident that is alleged to have occurred during the Liverpool versus Manchester United fixture at Anfield today," a statement from the FA said.

"Referee Andre Marriner was made aware of an allegation at the end of the fixture and subsequently reported this to the FA.

"The FA will now begin making enquiries into the matter."

United did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Javier Hernandez salvaged a draw for United by cancelling out a free kick from Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool captain.
