Ducks power to fourth successive victory

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA // Rob Niedermayer scored twice to lift the streaking Anaheim Ducks to a 4-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes yesterday. The Ducks have won four in a row and are 7-0-1 in their last eight road games, while Carolina have now lost three in succession at home. Niedermayer gave Anaheim a 3-1 lead with an even-handed goal 8 minutes and 25 seconds into the third period and completed the scoring six minutes later in a game between the former Stanley Cup champions.

Anaheim, who won the title in 2007, struck twice within 1:09 of the third through Teemu Selanne and Niedermayer. Selanne broke a 1-1 tie with a powerplay goal 7:16 into the period and Niedermayer quickly followed. Ryan Getzlaf, who had a goal and two assists, collected Anaheim's first goal with the game just 1:44 old. Matt Cullen answered for Carolina, the 2006 Stanley Cup champions, five minutes later.

Netminder Jonas Hiller made 36 saves for Anaheim. Cam Ward started in goal for the Hurricanes but suffered an injury in the first period and was replaced by Michael Leighton. Ward yielded one goal off 13 shots and Leighton gave up three goals while making 11 saves. *Reuters
