West Indies and India will play three T20s and as many ODIs against India. AFP

West Indies are in India for a limited overs clash and enter the three-match T20 series, beginning on Friday, as the underdogs.

West Indies, the T20 world champions, have slipped to 10th in T20 rankings – below Afghanistan. But they remain upbeat as it is the start of a new era under the leadership of Kieron Pollard in limited overs cricket.

The Caribbean side is currently on an extended tour of India. They previously played Afghanistan in a full series comprising of three ODIs, three T20s and a Test. West Indies swept the ODI series but lost the T20 leg 2-1. Th one-off Test ended in a win for the Caribbean side; Afghanistan play their home series in India.

India enter the series on the back of strong performances against South Africa and Bangladesh in the Test series at home, sweeping the five matches in comprehensive fashion.

Captain Pollard said playing in India is a challenge.

“We are coming up against a harder opposition, we would be the underdogs and that’s fine. But it is about going out there and executing and believing in your talent. Once you do that anything is possible,” Pollard was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

“There are boxes which need to be ticked off. When you do that, most times you end up on the right side of the result.”
