Joe Root could not have asked for a more memorable 100th Test as the England captain oversaw a 227-run victory over India at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Veteran seamer James Anderson produced one of the best spells of reverse swing to break India's back while left-arm spinner Jack Leach (4-76) ran through the lower order.

The hosts, who had been set a daunting 420-run victory target, got a fighting 72 from captain Virat Kohli while opener Shubman Gill scored 50 but they were bowled out for 192 in the second session of the final day.

England had made a daunting 578 in the first innings thanks to a double century by Root, which ultimately proved to be the deciding factor on a pitch that deteriorated rapidly.

Quite a few records were broken along the way as England produced one of their best performances in modern times. Stats from England's win can be seen in the picture gallery above. To view the next image, click on the arrows or simply swipe if on a mobile device.
