The English Football Association (FA) have confirmed their insurers will pay compensation to Liverpool for Steven Gerrard's hamstring injury, but that will come as little consolation for those who will be without their captain for a month.
Estimates put the payment to Liverpool at about £500,000 (Dh2.49 million) after Gerrard sustained a grade-two tear in England's defeat to France at Wembley on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old midfielder has been ruled out for a month, which could have a significant effect on his side's season after a recent revival came to an end at Stoke City last Saturday.
The FA have been anxious to point out the cash will not come directly from them but an insurance scheme that has been set up, which has already paid out to Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur for injuries sustained by Theo Walcott and Jermain Defoe, respectively, on international duty this season.
The FA are one of the few national associations who run such an insurance scheme.
With Lucas Leiva serving a one-match suspension and Joe Cole still a week away from fitness, manager Roy Hodgson will have to reshuffle central midfield for the visit of West Ham United. Hodgson admits he is "disappointed and a little bit angry" about Gerrard's injury.
"As Liverpool manager I am frustrated and disappointed to lose such an important player for such a long period of time," Hodgson said. "Anything I say - other than I am disappointed and even a little bit angry about it - would be dishonest. But I know Steven, as an important player for club and country, is keen to put a tin lid on the matter.
"He is disappointed and sad, too, but he is going to do everything he can to get back to fitness as quickly as possible."
After Wednesday's match England coach Fabio Capello said he would speak to Hodgson but was not going to apologise.
That phone call has not yet been made but the Liverpool manager is not too concerned.
"I don't expect apologies from anyone and I'm not prepared to add any fuel to the fire," he said. "My main concern is with Liverpool Football Club, the match against West Ham tomorrow and in particular with Steven Gerrard."

Chef Nobu's advice for eating sushi
“One mistake people always make is adding extra wasabi. There is no need for this, because it should already be there between the rice and the fish.
“When eating nigiri, you must dip the fish – not the rice – in soy sauce, otherwise the rice will collapse. Also, don’t use too much soy sauce or it will make you thirsty. For sushi rolls, dip a little of the rice-covered roll lightly in soy sauce and eat in one bite.
“Chopsticks are acceptable, but really, I recommend using your fingers for sushi. Do use chopsticks for sashimi, though.
“The ginger should be eaten separately as a palette cleanser and used to clear the mouth when switching between different pieces of fish.”
