Carlo Ancelotti, the new Bayern Munich manager, is looking forward to taking charge of the Bundesliga side and does not plan on making huge changes after the success of Pep Guardiola's reign.
First appearance
The Italian made his first public appearance as Bayern Munich manager at a news conference on Monday. He is preparing for the start of the new Bundesliga season next month and the challenge of improving on the work of Guardiola, who won the title in all three of his seasons at the helm of the German side.
Looking forward
Ancelotti, who has previously managed Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid during his coaching career, said of his move to Bayern: “I feel very good because I’m at one of the best clubs in the world, but I am looking forward to the start of a new season. I’m very happy and proud to be here and I want to thank Bayern for this.”
Pressure
Bayern have won the Bundesliga for the past four seasons and won the Uefa Champions League most recently in 2013. So does Ancelotti fear he will be unable to match the expectations of more success? “A lot of people ask about the pressure – I am used to it,” he said. “Honestly, I don’t feel the pressure because I’m used to it and I really love my job.”
Attacking
As to how he wants Bayern to play football under his management in the coming months, he said: “I know very well that the style of Bayern Munich is to play attacking football and we want to play attacking football. I’m not here to make a revolution because the job that Guardiola did here was fantastic and I would like to follow his style.”
Early games
Bayern play their first game under Ancelotti, a pre-season friendly with Lippstadt, on Saturday, with the first league game of the season due to be at home to Werder Bremen on August 26.
