Blackburn kick-started their season with an emphatic victory over new-boys Wolverhampton Wanderers at Ewood Park.
El-Hadji Diouf scored his first goal of the season from close range on 19 minutes in an entertaining and open first half where Wolves were found guilty of squandering numerous chances.
However, Rovers stepped up a gear in the second period at Ewood Park with Jason Roberts doubling their lead in the 56th minute scrambling home from inside the six-yard box.
David Dunn put the result beyond doubt just past the hour when the midfielder struck into the bottom right-hand corner from close range. Wolves pressed to find their way back into the game and were rewarded by Stefan Maierhofer on 87 minutes, but it was too little, too late.
Man of the match: David Dunn (Blackburn)
Portsmouth's torrid season continued, but at the very least they showed fighting spirit in their narrow-2 defeat against Bolton at Fratton Park.
Pompey had come from behind twice before Gary Cahill struck the eventual winner one minute before time to leave the south coast club pointless from their first five games.
Tamir Cohen's opener on 13 minutes was cancelled out by Younis Kaboul's header 11 minutes later.
Matthew Taylor then handed Bolton the lead from the spot on 40 minutes after Tal Ben-Haim brought down Kevin Davies. Kevin-Prince Boateng pulled the hosts back into the contest on 62 minutes with a right-footed drive from inside the penalty area.
However, Cahill's header from a Chris Basham cross claimed the points.

Hugo Rodallega scored Wigan's first home goal of the season as they beat West Ham at the DW Stadium. The Colombian broke the deadlock with a tap-in on 55 minutes after the visiting goalkeeper Robert Green had thwarted Jason Koumas. Having scored just six Premier League goals so far this season between them, a high-scoring encounter never looked likely in a match with few clear-cut chances. After six minutes, Gianfranco Zola's men had a penalty claim turned down when Maynor Figueroa cut across the back of Zavon Hines, but the best action of the first half saw Wigan's Chris Kirkland turn behind a shot from Junior Stanislas. New signing Alessandro Diamanti hit the bar with 12 minutes left as West Ham searched for an equaliser. Man of the match: Hugo Rodallega (Wigan)
