Everton's run of five successive victories came to end when a defiant Stoke earned a 1-1 draw from a physical battle at Goodison Park. After a goalless first half it had been Stoke who had taken a surprise lead as the former Chelsea defender Robert Huth scored his first goal for the club as he headed home Matthew Etherington's corner in the 48th minute. But the home side were level within five minutes as Leon Osman's fierce drive flew into the net off the underside of the crossbar. Everton pushed forward for a winner as Diniyar Bilyaletdinov and Tim Cahill were both denied by the excellent Thomas Sorensen in the Stoke goal as the visitors held on for a deserved share of the spoils.
