Al Wasl's woes show no signs of abating. The 2007 League and President's Cup champions crashed to their third defeat in five games of the etisalat UAE Football League, listless as they went down 2-0 at home to Al Ahli. The hosts lacked tact and inspiration, and there was little to suggest their season is going to get any better. There were no signs of light at the end of the tunnel and darker days lie ahead for the seven-time league champions.
The Al Wasl fans, who had boycotted the team's last UFL game in protest at the poor performance of their side, had assembled in large numbers for this "Dubai derby". But they trooped towards the exit mid- way through the second half, knowing Wasl's fate had been sealed after a goal apiece by Jader Volnei Spindler "Bare" and Milad Meydavoudi. Ahli were clearly the better side and made a determined start, dictating the pace and keeping possession. By the 15th minute of the game, the visitors had made more than a dozen raids at the Wasl goal and the referee Mohammed Omar had already dished out three yellow cards: to Obaid Khalifa and Ismail al Hammadi of Ahli and Tareq Hassan from Wasl.
Ahli were in absolute control and they got their deserved reward when Bare found the net in the 28th minute. Adel Abdulaziz did most of the work for the goal, darting down the left before releasing for Hosny Abd Rabo at the top of the box. The Egyptian player relayed the ball for Bare, who drilled in a low right-footer to the left of Majed Naser. Stung by the reversal, the Wasl coach Jurcic Srecko pulled Yousuf Hassan out in the 36th minute to send in Khalid Darwish. The hosts looked like a different side almost immediately as the diminutive mid-fielder took charge along with the Iranian Iman Mobali, who tested the Ahli keeper Obaid al Tawelah with a stining right-footer from almost 30 yards in the 42nd minute.
Returning from the break, the hosts started their search for the equaliser in earnest, Meydavoudi's second for Ahli broke their back. The Iranian turned around after receiving a cross from Ismail al Hammadi and volleyed past Naser. Al Wasl had a great chance of reducing the deficit and coming back into the game when Adel Abdulaziz dragged Zikagory down in the 61st minute and the referee awarded a penalty. Do your homework

Don’t be afraid to negotiate
It’s quite standard to negotiate if you think an offer is on the low side. The job is unlikely to be withdrawn if you ask for money, and if that did happen I’d question whether you want to work for an employer who is so hypersensitive.
Know your worth
Women tend to be a bit more reticent to talk about their achievements. In my experience they need to have more confidence in their own abilities – men will big up what they’ve done to get a pay rise, and to compete women need to turn up the volume.
Work together
If you suspect men in your organisation are being paid more, look your boss in the eye and say, “I want you to assure me that I’m paid equivalent to my peers”. If you’re not getting a straight answer, talk to your peer group and consider taking direct action to fix inequality.

When Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi
Known as The Lady of Arabic Song, Umm Kulthum performed in Abu Dhabi on November 28, 1971, as part of celebrations for the fifth anniversary of the accession of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan as Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Mercer, the investment consulting arm of US services company Marsh & McLennan, expects its wealth division to at least double its assets under management (AUM) in the Middle East as wealth in the region continues to grow despite economic headwinds, a company official said.
Mercer Wealth, which globally has $160 billion in AUM, plans to boost its AUM in the region to $2-$3bn in the next 2-3 years from the present $1bn, said Yasir AbuShaban, a Dubai-based principal with Mercer Wealth.
“Within the next two to three years, we are looking at reaching $2 to $3 billion as a conservative estimate and we do see an opportunity to do so,” said Mr AbuShaban.
Mercer does not directly make investments, but allocates clients’ money they have discretion to, to professional asset managers. They also provide advice to clients.
“We have buying power. We can negotiate on their (client’s) behalf with asset managers to provide them lower fees than they otherwise would have to get on their own,” he added.
Mercer Wealth’s clients include sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and insurance companies among others.
From its office in Dubai, Mercer also looks after Africa, India and Turkey, where they also see opportunity for growth.
Wealth creation in Middle East and Africa (MEA) grew 8.5 per cent to $8.1 trillion last year from $7.5tn in 2015, higher than last year’s global average of 6 per cent and the second-highest growth in a region after Asia-Pacific which grew 9.9 per cent, according to consultancy Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In the region, where wealth grew just 1.9 per cent in 2015 compared with 2014, a pickup in oil prices has helped in wealth generation.
BCG is forecasting MEA wealth will rise to $12tn by 2021, growing at an annual average of 8 per cent.
Drivers of wealth generation in the region will be split evenly between new wealth creation and growth of performance of existing assets, according to BCG.
Another general trend in the region is clients’ looking for a comprehensive approach to investing, according to Mr AbuShaban.
“Institutional investors or some of the families are seeing a slowdown in the available capital they have to invest and in that sense they are looking at optimizing the way they manage their portfolios and making sure they are not investing haphazardly and different parts of their investment are working together,” said Mr AbuShaban.
Some clients also have a higher appetite for risk, given the low interest-rate environment that does not provide enough yield for some institutional investors. These clients are keen to invest in illiquid assets, such as private equity and infrastructure.
“What we have seen is a desire for higher returns in what has been a low-return environment specifically in various fixed income or bonds,” he said.
“In this environment, we have seen a de facto increase in the risk that clients are taking in things like illiquid investments, private equity investments, infrastructure and private debt, those kind of investments were higher illiquidity results in incrementally higher returns.”
The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, one of the largest sovereign wealth funds, said in its 2016 report that has gradually increased its exposure in direct private equity and private credit transactions, mainly in Asian markets and especially in China and India. The authority’s private equity department focused on structured equities owing to “their defensive characteristics.”

What is dialysis?
