The Right Man denied William Mott becoming the first American trainer to win the US$1 million (Dh3.67m) Al Quoz Sprint in the 12th running of the 1,200-metre race on the turf at Meydan Racecourse.
Francois-Xavier Bertas on The Right Man took up the running from Ertijaal under Jim Crowley but was joined by Long On Value under Joel Rosario on the final 100m but the five-year-old gelding by Lope de Vega had just held on to win in a photo.
Ertijaal, who won both his starts over 1,000m this season, broke well and led but Crowley could not keep that lead as they entered the final 200m. He did well, though, to take third ahead of Godolphin’s Jungle Cat.
