AL AIN // After succeeding in annihilating their competition in the precursor to the upcoming season, the Al Ain coach Winfried Schaefer will be hoping for happy times ahead. Schaefer's men were on top of their game in the friendly four-team tournament they hosted, emerging unbeaten champions, after defeating the Kuwaiti powerhouse Al Qadsiya 2-1 in the final round at the Khalifa bin Zayed Stadium in the small hours of this morning. And judging from the exuberant confidence exuded by Schaefer, the team are looking forward to challenging for success again. Al Ain face Al Nasr at home in the Pro League opener on September 28 and the German will be hoping to fulfil his ambitions of winning the triple crown, one better than the cup double he achieved last season. In Jose Sand, Schaefer has found a striker to replace the Brazilian Andre Diaz, the club's top scorer last season. The Argentine scored his fourth goal in three games to cancel out Al Qadsiya's lead. Sand headed in a cross from Ali al Wehaibi just past the half-hour mark before Al Wehaibi himself put Al Ain ahead in the 67th minute. Qadsiya had drawn first blood through their Kuwaiti international Musaed Neda after 14 minutes. The visitor's were reduced to 10 players on the stroke of half-time when Ali al Nemish was red carded for a horrendous foul on Saif Mohammed and Neda joined him after a second booking seven minutes from time. Schaefer's squad will be further strengthened with the Brazilian forward Marcio Emerson completing the club's foreign signing alongside Sand and Jorge Valdivia, the playmaker from Chile.

- Over a period of seven years, a team of scientists analysed dietary data from 50,000 North American adults.
- Eating one or two meals a day was associated with a relative decrease in BMI, compared with three meals. Snacks count as a meal. Likewise, participants who ate more than three meals a day experienced an increase in BMI: the more meals a day, the greater the increase.
- People who ate breakfast experienced a relative decrease in their BMI compared with “breakfast-skippers”.
- Those who turned the eating day on its head to make breakfast the biggest meal of the day, did even better.
- But scrapping dinner altogether gave the best results. The study found that the BMI of subjects who had a long overnight fast (of 18 hours or more) decreased when compared even with those who had a medium overnight fast, of between 12 and 17 hours.

UK's plans to cut net migration
Under the UK government’s proposals, migrants will have to spend 10 years in the UK before being able to apply for citizenship.
Skilled worker visas will require a university degree, and there will be tighter restrictions on recruitment for jobs with skills shortages.
But what are described as "high-contributing" individuals such as doctors and nurses could be fast-tracked through the system.
Language requirements will be increased for all immigration routes to ensure a higher level of English.
Rules will also be laid out for adult dependants, meaning they will have to demonstrate a basic understanding of the language.
The plans also call for stricter tests for colleges and universities offering places to foreign students and a reduction in the time graduates can remain in the UK after their studies from two years to 18 months.

Real estate tokenisation project
Dubai launched the pilot phase of its real estate tokenisation project last month.
The initiative focuses on converting real estate assets into digital tokens recorded on blockchain technology and helps in streamlining the process of buying, selling and investing, the Dubai Land Department said.
Dubai’s real estate tokenisation market is projected to reach Dh60 billion ($16.33 billion) by 2033, representing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total property transactions, according to the DLD.

Types of policy
Term life insurance: this is the cheapest and most-popular form of life cover. You pay a regular monthly premium for a pre-agreed period, typically anything between five and 25 years, or possibly longer. If you die within that time, the policy will pay a cash lump sum, which is typically tax-free even outside the UAE. If you die after the policy ends, you do not get anything in return. There is no cash-in value at any time. Once you stop paying premiums, cover stops.
Whole-of-life insurance: as its name suggests, this type of life cover is designed to run for the rest of your life. You pay regular monthly premiums and in return, get a guaranteed cash lump sum whenever you die. As a result, premiums are typically much higher than one term life insurance, although they do not usually increase with age. In some cases, you have to keep up premiums for as long as you live, although there may be a cut-off period, say, at age 80 but it can go as high as 95. There are penalties if you don’t last the course and you may get a lot less than you paid in.
Critical illness cover: this pays a cash lump sum if you suffer from a serious illness such as cancer, heart disease or stroke. Some policies cover as many as 50 different illnesses, although cancer triggers by far the most claims. The payout is designed to cover major financial responsibilities such as a mortgage or children’s education fees if you fall ill and are unable to work. It is cost effective to combine it with life insurance, with the policy paying out once if you either die or suffer a serious illness.
Income protection: this pays a replacement income if you fall ill and are unable to continue working. On the best policies, this will continue either until you recover, or reach retirement age. Unlike critical illness cover, policies will typically pay out for stress and musculoskeletal problems such as back trouble.
