Fujairah secured a 1-0 home win over fourth-placed Al Wahda in the Arabian Gulf League yesterday, moving 13 points clear of the relegation zone in the process.

Fujairah had the better of the goalless first half, and in the 69th minute they finally received their reward.

Boubacar Sanogo showed great skill and composure to fire past Hamdan Al Kamali and Adel Al Hosani from a tight angle to claim the points.

The defeat was Wahda’s third in five AGL matches under coach Sami Al Jaber. Their only win under the former Saudi international came against Ajman on March 22.

Elsewhere, Al Dhafra came back from two goals down to claim a point at home to Al Nasr in a match delayed a day by poor weather conditions.

The visitors needed just a quarter of an hour to gain a 2-0 lead, racing in front with two goals in the space of a minute.

The opener came from Pablo Hernandez as he controlled Tariq Ahmed’s cross on his chest before rifling a right-footed shot into the back of the net.

Straight from kick-off, Brett Holman set up Ibrahima Toure to poke a finish past Ali Al Amir.

Early in the second half, Dhafra received a lifeline with the award of a penalty after Helal Saeed was adjudged to have brought down Mohammed Al Khoory, and Youssef Kaddioui stepped up to convert the spot kick. By the 77th minute, it was all square as Mohammed Al Khoory grabbed the equaliser.

At Zabeel Stadium, Caio struck twice inside two second-half minutes to give Al Wasl a 2-1 victory over Sharjah. Wanderley had given the visitors a 39th-minute lead with his 14th league goal of the season.

Elsewhere, Boris Kabi’s 69th-minute penalty gave Ajman a 2-2 draw with Baniyas.
