Abu Dhabi Media will on Tuesday launch EDGE Sport HD, an all-action sports channel focused on extreme sports such as skateboarding, surfing and kiteboarding.

The channel, launched in collaboration with the global media and sports management group IMG, will be the first English-language channel on the Abu Dhabi Television Network.

The network already includes coverage of the Arabian Gulf League, the 2016 European Championship qualifying tournament and WWE programmes, among other events.

The encrypted channel will be available to Abu Dhabi TV subscribers on OSN channel 627.

Some of the planned programming, which includes more than 50 live events and more than 500 hours of content, includes the World Surf League, the World Rallycross Championship, the World Snowboard Tour, the BMX Supercross World Cup Series and the International Festival of Extreme Sports.

Commenting on the launch, Abdul Hadi Al Sheikh, executive director of television at Abu Dhabi Media, said: “We are working seamlessly on ensuring the best content reaches its audience world wide. We are focused on engaging the audience through unique programming and revolutionary content. In line with this, we are adding EDGE Sports HD to our television network which is focused on hosting the highest profile events.

“We are focusing on keeping up with the trends today working towards setting trends tomorrow.”
