Six UNRWA staff members were killed after two air strikes hit a school in central Gaza on Wednesday. The UN's Palestinian refugee agency said it was the highest death toll among its staff in a single incident.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said on social media on Wednesday, “What’s happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable.”

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi denounced what he called the use of “hunger as a weapon” in the Gaza war.

Cairo has been a mediator in ceasefire negotiations, along with the US and Qatar. It has seen rising tension in its relations with Israel since the start of the war.

The Video Music Awards took place yesterday. Taylor Swift took seven awards, with Eminem and Lenny Kravitz among the other winners.
