This country has taken the right decision

I am sure the rift between Qatar and the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Yemen is temporary. However, the decision to sever diplomatic ties with Qatar was good, as it’s in the best interest of the region and its people.

The GCC countries cannot allow their safety to be compromised. In situations such as this, they have to act cautiously and swiftly. So be happy with what is happening. We should be able to live happily wherever we are.

Name withheld by request

The UAE has taken the right decision. One day Qatar will realise its mistake. I hope the discord does not continue for long and that it normalises its relations with its neighbours.

Let’s not forget that Iran is our enemy. Iran doesn’t want this region to be peaceful.

Asyah Elisabeth Meel, Abu Dhabi

United we stand, divided we fall. Unity is our strength. I hope these countries will soon be able to resolve their differences.

Jameel Mohammed, Dubai

What’s the plan for energy?

I write with regards to your news report about the fallout from the regional dispute, Gas supplies keep flowing as Qatar diplomatic spat flares (June 5), because I wonder what is the contingency plan when Qatar decides to turn off the taps? Randall Mohammed, Abu Dhabi

Indian players are unbeatable

Well played India (India divide and conquer Pakistan, again, in one-sided Champions Trophy game, June 5).

The country has produced some of the finest cricketers in the world.

There is no comparison between India and Pakistan. I am a Pakistani, yet I have to acknowledge this fact.

Why we should adopt cats

It is costing me Dh8,000 to take the kitten I rescued back to South Africa (Abu Dhabi cat neutering project hopes to reduce numbers by thousands, May 5). I started saving as soon as I adopted him. I would have taken 10 cats if I could. He has enriched my life. My advice to the readers: please don’t buy from pet shops. Instead, adopt.

Don’t allow the terrorists to win

Each time terrorists threaten us and we stop living our lives, the terrorists win (Emiratis warned against UK travel following terrorist attack, June 5). After the Manchester attack, they said: “No one can stop us. We are fearless.”

Brigitte von Bulow, Abu Dhabi

Terrorists should not be able to stop us from living normal life. We should not confine ourselves out of fear.

Sangita Thakrar, Abu Dhabi

London story is heartbreaking

In reference to the news report London attacker was gym-loving dad with two-week-old baby: neighbours (June 5), no father in his right mind would leave his children in such a manner.

Teachers should be better paid

I hope this means teachers will be more valued by the institutions that hire them (Fewer than half of teachers pass UAE licensing test, June 6).

I'm not a teacher myself but I appreciate how hard they work and I don't think their remuneration is nearly enough. Retention of top teachers is very poor and there must be a reason to explain why. Daniella How, Abu Dhabi

Compassion for a grieving family

I’m so sorry for the loss this family has suffered (Parents of boy found on Abu Dhabi roof remember ‘loving, caring’ son, June 5). My heart goes out to this family.
