Movie fans had their first glimpse of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in an 88-second teaser trailer that was released online and into American cinemas over the Thanksgiving holiday. And the first thing they saw was a stunning view of the sands of the Abu Dhabi desert, followed by the sudden appearance in the foreground of British actor John Boyega.
The trailer tells us very little about the film, which is set 30 years after the events portrayed in the blockbuster Return of the Jedi. It will be released worldwide in December 2015. But, the glorious sandy vistas do say something about Abu Dhabi, which is standing in for Tatooine, the desolate home planet of Anakin Skywalker (later known as Darth Vader) and his son, Luke.
Tourism operators in the UAE ought to make sure that everybody who has seen the trailer knows exactly where that particular part of the movie was filmed – as well as how to get here.
