It is almost six years since gunmen armed with rocket launchers and grenades attacked the Sri Lankan cricket team bus in Pakistan. The incident claimed the lives of six policemen, injured several officials and players and immediately shut down Pakistan as a host of international cricket. Since then, the team has played its cricket in this country and the prospects for a return to Pakistan seem remote.

While cricket fans around the world should hope that international cricket eventually finds its way back to Pakistan, one wonders if the team will ever want to leave their temporary home in this country, such is their current rich vein of form. Yesterday the team completed a comprehensive victory over New Zealand. Earlier this month, Pakistan bagged a series win over Australia for the first time in two decades. They did so while smashing several individual scoring records.

Results have put Pakistan's cricket team in a confident and stable position. If only their country could find itself in the same place.
