The quality of an artistic performance is subjective. But there are some things that those who promote and present shows must get right to ensure audiences get value for their money. And it would seem that the people who went to see the Gala-Ballet performance at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday have reasons to be upset.
As The National reported yesterday, the ticket holders complained that the floor plan was nothing like the multilevel venue depicted online, and that two world-class dancers who were advertised on the original bill did not turn up.
Quality drama, opera, musical-theatre and dance performances require a purpose-built venue with professional lighting and acoustics, and raked seating so that everybody gets a good view. The World Trade Centre is not such a venue, and audiences will lose interest in this kind of entertainment if it is not presented properly.
The 2,000-seat Dubai Opera House that is due to open its doors soon will, hopefully, address this issue.
