Set a speed limit and stick to it
In response to your article, End of the 20kph buffer? UAE police ask public for views on ending leeway on speeding (August 31), my view is: set the limit you want and stick to it. If the authorities think the limit on the main highways should be 140kph, then post it as that. It's less confusing for everyone. I still come across people who reduce their speed from 140kph to 120kph when they approach radars, which is extremely dangerous. And I still come across people who think that certain sections of the highways are strictly regulated at the lower end of the speed limit, including a colleague of mine.

Salons need a check on their prices during peak seasons
I refer to your article, Dubai municipality bans black henna in beauty salons (September 1). I hope they also set limits on prices charged by salons, especially during peak seasons like Eid.

Wasn't this banned almost a decade ago? I personally have known about this since 2010.

Accurate addresses would help in online sales
In reference to the article, Amazon begins direct sale of online goods through UAE portal as it looks to shake up retail (August 29), l also think that ensuring the universal existence of accurate addresses could help a lot with this.

Parents must learn that financial planning is crucial
I refer to your article, Expensive month for UAE parents with some taking out loans as Eid and start of school coincide (August 29). I don't know what some parents are buying their children for Eid, but less is sometimes more. After all, education is expensive enough as it is.

Poor budgeting and poor financial planning are trigger factors to all this. You end up not only having to pay off old loans, but also take out new debt. Parents need to learn how to manage their lifestyle.

If people keep taking out new loans, we will definitely end up reading about them under the Debt Panel column of The National.
