Social media was abuzz with discussions on the weather as our region experienced its first real taste of winter with foggy mornings causing flight delays and traffic problems.
Dubai Police urged drivers to slow down, use hazard lights only when there’s an emergency, leave safe distance between vehicles and use indicators while changing lanes.
Authorities in Saudi Arabia issued similar warning as thick fog enveloped Riyadh until 9am on Tuesday. Many parents urged school authorities to allow their children to stay at home fearing accidents, while many employees urged their bosses to be accommodative and understanding if they were late at work.
Despite warnings and fears, accidents seemed to be inevitable. In Ras Al Khaimah, for example, 26 cars were involved in four separate accidents caused by fog on Tuesday causing injury to five people.
A separate accident led to an 11-car pile-up while six vehicles were also involved in another crash.
