Reel life in Dubai

A comedy about expats’ exploits is hopefully the first of many television series set in the UAE

Naim Zaboura seems to be on a winner with his new television comedy, D-City! As The National reported yesterday, Mr Zaboura is the writer and co-producer of the English-language series that follows the adventures of four expatriate women living in Dubai. The pilot of D-City! will be broadcast online and has been picked up for a 30-episode series to be produced by Jordan-based Arab Telemedia Group next year. It's a big deal for Mr Zaboura, who is a graduate of Abu Dhabi's New York Film Academy, for the cast and crew who will work alongside him and for the television industry in general.

Television series are often at their best when they are firmly based in reality, so it is only natural that a show set in Dubai might feature expatriates enjoying the high-life. But, of course, there are as many stories as there are people in this country, and we hope that more of them – including Emirati stories – can be told by our home-grown filmmakers.
