Filming is about to begin on a 20-episode legal drama set in local courtrooms and described by its creators as "LA Law meets Dallas in Abu Dhabi". With the involvement of Billy Finkelstein, a screenwriter and producer for the original LA Law series, and with up-and-coming Egyptian director Ahmed Khaled Mousa at the helm, local television drama is about to make a leap forward.
The storyline is a universal one of intergenerational dynamics, involving a traditional and respected Emirati lawyer and his upstart daughter, who has just returned from studying law in the US. But the judicial system will also play a leading role, shedding light on the sometimes misunderstood legal process.
What other local adaptations of popular foreign programme might follow? Can we expect a period drama in the manner of Downton Abey? Or should it be Downton Dhabi? How about The UAE-Files? Will the local version of Under the Dome be Under the Dune? We welcome shows that will inform and entertain.
