Festival of tomorrow

The venue for the Abu Dhabi Science Festival could not be more appropriate. Mushrif Central Park is a highly accessible place where the emphasis is on family enjoyment – perfect for an event designed to demonstrate how science and technology can be fun.

It’s no secret that many of the jobs of the future will require people with training in the Stem subjects – science, technology, engineering and maths. The idea behind the festival is to instil in children an appreciation of how exciting these fields can be, and to open up to them a whole world of discovery.

Joining the organisers, the Abu Dhabi Education Council and the Abu Dhabi Technology Department Committee, in this initiative are backers such as Adnoc, Abu Dhabi Distribution Company and Etihad Airways, who will be the future employers of tech-savvy students. For the rest of us, it’s exciting to think that the child playing with a hydrogen balloon or LED kite in the park today could be a noted software developer, nuclear scientist or surgeon tomorrow.
