I write to you in reference to your editorial Minibus deaths highlight need for better safety (October 2).
It is striking and indeed shocking that accidents as horrific as the one that killed eight on Monday can happen in a city as well run as Dubai. It goes to show that none of us can ever guarantee safety while travelling. Where I live, accidents are more commonplace. Unfortunately, some of them involve school buses. While driver negligence and poor traffic conditions are common causes in some of India’s crowded cities, reasons can wary from place to place. This is why I appreciate the fact that your editorial refused to blame any one person or organisation for the tragedy this week. That said, the health of the drivers and vehicle maintenance are important first steps that should be taken by transportation companies in order to improve road safety.

We need to plant more trees and care for the environment around us
I write to you in reference to Arthur MacMillan's article Climate action summit a test for UN chief as well as global leaders (September 22).
The world is facing a climate crisis at the moment, evident from inadequate green cover. An obvious reduction in the number of trees has an adverse impact on the amount of oxygen in the atmosphere. We need to care for the environment around us and plant more trees, especially in schools, residential areas and mosques. I do hope people in positions of authority will lead the charge for the rest of society to follow.

Looking at Al Mansouri’s photo of the UAE in space was amazing
I write to you in reference to Ian Oxborrow's article 'This is the UAE from space': Hazza Al Mansouri shares image of the Emirates taken from ISS (October 1).
This is the stuff that dreams are made of. Way to go, Hazza Al Mansouri. Just looking at the image of the UAE from space was amazing.
