Fans of the English Premier League heaved a sigh of relief this weekend after the Qatar-based broadcaster beIN Sports began showing all 3pm matches live once more. The broadcaster had earlier cut the feed on the majority of Saturday afternoon matches citing encryption issues, despite promising to screen every EPL match live and continuing to charge customers for a service they did not receive.
The reinstatement of multi-match broadcasting was revealed on Twitter on Friday by the beIN Sports presenter Richard Keys. But is a brief announcement on social media really adequate to address the grievances of disgruntled subscribers?
Throughout the months-long blackout, customers had been given little information about why the feed was cut and have not been kept informed about when it would be reinstated. Most fans will just be glad the football is back on TV, but the broadcaster has scored another own goal with its poor customer service.
