The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair continues until May 3. In Dubai, 15 public libraries have been targeted for renovation in a partnership between Dubai Culture and Arts Authority and Dubai Municipality. A similar refurbishment programme has begun in the Northern Emirates, and workplaces throughout the country have been encouraged to open libraries for their employees. This paper meanwhile continues its year-long campaign to give away more than 40,000 books to schools.
Upgrading library infrastructure and investing in public events such as book fairs are sure-fire ways to encourage reading. We encourage everyone to get involved and get stuck into a good book. The benefits will be felt for years to come.
