The safety of children travelling in vehicles is a very important issue for every motorist (We need to change attitudes towards seat belts, November 30).
That is why the authorities are developing and enforcing safety regulations and raising awareness.
Seeing a child without a safety harness sends shivers down my spine. Children’s car seats make road travel safer for your child. Displaying a “child on board” sign will not.
If parents can spend a huge amount of money on a luxury car, then there is no excuse for not buying a child safety seat. These seats keep a child in place in the case of a sudden stop or crash, reducing the chance of serious injury or death.
The proper installation and use of child restraints is important, and each of us must do our part to make roads travel safer for children.
I often see drivers with infants on their laps while driving, which is really dangerous. These people should be heavily fined and have their licences taken away. There should be no leniency in these instances. Mathew Litty, Dubai
The answer is simple: there should be some very graphic marketing campaigns showing what happens to children when they are not wearing a seat belt during a crash. Vijay Rambruth, Dubai
It scares me to see children climbing over the dashboard or popping out of the sunroof rather than sitting in safety seats.
Instead of increasing the number of speed cameras, we should increase the number of checks by police officers. There should be heavy fines and black points for offenders.
This behaviour should be made socially unacceptable through campaigns in schools and the media.

How I made myself healthy
I refer to your helpful article, Men's health: essential nutrients and the foods that provide them (November 17). Our habits and lifestyle and the key to better health. I have learnt this from my own experience, as I have dealt with many troubles linked to bad habits such as drinking and eating only junk food.
I went to the doctor and he prescribed me a supplement and explained to me that I needed better nourishment.
He told me to eat vegetables, fish, beans and fruit. I had to quit the sugars in fast food and soft drinks, and give up coffee and cigarettes.
I have never felt better thanks to my new lifestyle.

Social media has a weakness
I endorse the sentiments in Checking into real life and switching off from social media (November 28).
Social media must be used wisely.
Certainly, it can bring people together or make one’s voice heard. But, at the same time, its strength is also its weakness, as it can spread a lot of rubbish.
These days we must deal with a lot of information that does not make us any wiser. Christina Toebast, Dubai
iPhone is not the only option
The genius of Apple: How its customers will tolerate any malfunction (November 30) raises a common problem.
And there’s a simple solution to it: don’t buy an iPhone.

Surgery can change lives
I was pleased to read Bypass surgery a life-changing experience for Dubai expat (November 27).
Coronary artery bypass grafting is no longer regarded as a difficult operation, and it is becoming a common procedure in many big-city hospitals.
I wish good luck to the patient. Ahmed Mounir, Egypt
Will Trump take away Israel aid?
Israel prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu must be very concerned about the possibility of losing American aid from the Trump administration when it takes office in January.
The impact on the heavily United States-subsidised Israeli economy could be severe. Israel may be obliged to pay its own way in the world.
The present “strategic partnership” between America and Israel is an anachronism that benefits the Israeli government at the expense of the American economy and livelihoods
Most Americans will see this new scrutiny as being well overdue.
