Abu Dhabi needs health facilities for women

  • English
  • Arabic

In reference to your editorial Get on your bike for a healthy life (November 9), I agree that cycling is a great exercise, but many women who wear the abaya cannot ride bicycles in their neighbourhoods.

It would be great if each city within Abu Dhabi had an affordable gym for women with their own crèche. This would enable many women to live a healthy lifestyle.

I know of many Emirati women, who would be very happy to have these facilities available to them close to their homes.

Casey N Corley, Abu Dhabi

It’s impossible to ride a bicycle in the summer. I see people doing it, but I wouldn’t.

Jen Bishop, Abu Dhabi

We’re indebted to Sheikh Zayed

Sheikh Zayed was a visionary leader and the main architect of modern UAE (How Zayed's legacy endures, November 2), which is why he will remain in our memory forever. Emiratis and expatriates are all indebted to him.

K Ragavan, India

Sheikh Zayed was a great leader. All Muslim leaders should follow his footsteps.

Muhammad Ali, Dubai

Let’s first clean Earth’s mess

I agree with your view that we must overcome hindrances to carry on with explorations of the outer universe (Tragedy should not stop exploration, November 2).

However, I also believe that we must try to clear up the mess on Earth before transporting people to space and other planets.

Al Habtoor is an example

I appreciate the generosity of Khalaf Al Habtoor (Dream holiday for a little girl whose sight is fading, November 4). I wish we had more people like him.

Joanne Weir, Dubai

You are a wonderful person Mr Al Habtoor. Thank you very much for your generosity.

Eenas El Sheakh, Dubai

Keep an eye on boats

With regard to the article Reem's promised beach is off-limits, November 9), besides the horrible construction rubbish ruining the marine environment, it should also be noted that private boats are dropping fishing lines and nets in the evening.

Michelle Lynn, Abu Dhabi

Show no mercy to terrorists

I refer to the article Inside the world of deradicalising extremists (November 7). I think anyone joining a terrorist group should automatically lose their citizenship. Make them stateless with no possibility of return, which could be more effective in containing terrorism than taking a soft approach towards them.

Understanding key to driving

I refer to the article Using 'Giver's Gain' makes driving happy and relaxing for expatriate (November 9). This attitude requires the provision of time. We need to leave the house a few minutes early so that we have a surplus of minutes to give to others. As John Quinn found out, the investment is worth the return in happiness and well-being. Remember that the person cutting in may have a genuine emergency, or may be unfamiliar with the roads in the area and has made an honest mistake.

Jeffrey Martin, Abu Dhabi

When I go to Europe from the UAE for two months during the summer, I feel the difference. Many drivers in the UAE do not know how to respect the rules of the road.
