Between March 26 and April 4, the Corniche teemed with crowds eager to enjoy the wide range of activities on offer at the second edition of the Mother of the Nation Festival.

It was a perfect time of the year for it to be held, especially as it bridged most of the two-week school holidays. The festival offered an affordable and engaging way for parents to keep their youngsters occupied and to fill the long, lazy days that the end of term signals.

According to official figures, the festival attracted more than 197,000 guests this year, including about 40,000 children between 5 and 12 years old. The entertainment included a variety of musical performances, as well as dozens of food and drink options.

Many parents will no doubt breathe a sigh of relief this morning when they drop their kids at school and some semblance of routine returns to family life. Their minds might also wander back to the Mother of the Nation Festival as they wistfully wonder how they will manage to wait for a year until this annual carnival returns.
