A good night’s rest

Many of us aren’t getting a full eight hours of sleep thanks to the allure of the smartphone

Are you sleeping well? Do you feel rested when morning comes? For many people around the world, the answer is a resounding no. According to researchers at the University of Michigan, there is a global sleep crisis thanks in large part to social pressures that are forcing people to sleep less and the rampant use of smartphones throughout the night. Not surprisingly the data for this research was obtained primarily through a smartphone application.

It doesn’t take a smartphone app to determine that people are sleeping less and not as well as they once did. Being always connected and working long hours are the major factors. Many of us have also lost the ability to nap, according to entrepreneur and sleep advocate Arianna Huffington. With Ramadan on the horizon, our sleep patterns are about to change.

Breaking our routine and judging how the body reacts can help identify sleep problems. Perhaps we even have something to teach the world about a good night’s rest.
