Doug Emhoff may soon become the first "first gentleman" if his wife, US Vice President Kamala Harris, wins this year's presidential election.
“You see the enthusiasm, you see the excitement, you saw the money raised, you saw the party coalesce,” Mr Emhoff said on Tuesday, a day after Ms Harris's presidential campaign officially began.
He is not unfamiliar with the prospect, as she ran for office in 2020, but now there is a new chance after President Joe Biden endorsed her for the Democratic nomination.
“You saw the broad base of support that she had in just one or two days because she's talking about an America that we all have a place in,” Mr Emhoff told reporters.
“And that's why Kamala Harris, who I'm so proud of … Kamala Harris has united the party. She's going to unite the country.”
Who is Doug Emhoff?
Born in the Brooklyn borough of New York, Mr Emhoff grew up in New Jersey and California.
He attended University of Southern California law school, and worked for more than three decades in entertainment law.
Throughout his career, Mr Emhoff represented celebrities, musicians, companies and studios before stepping into a campaign and federal role.
He has two children, Cole and Ella, from a previous marriage.

When Ms Harris became the first woman to be elected Vice President, Mr Emhoff became the first “second gentleman”.

How did Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff meet?
The couple met on a 2013 blind date set up by friend – but before meeting, Mr Emhoff left a voice mail introducing himself to her, which Ms Harris, who still has it saved, shared in a CBS interview.
Ms Harris also said in the Sunday Morning interview that she had looked him up on Google him before their date.
They began their relationship when she was attorney general for the state of California. They married in 2014.
What is he doing now?
Mr Emhoff is no longer working as an entertainment lawyer and is fully focused on his duties as the Vice President's husband.
He campaigned for Mr Biden's re-election before the President endorsed Ms Harris.
As the first Jewish spouse of a vice president, he has been a liaison with the Jewish-American community and spoken out forcefully against anti-Semitism.
“When Jews are targeted because of their beliefs or identity, and when Israel is singled out because of anti-Jewish hatred, that is anti-Semitism, and it must be condemned clearly, unequivocally and without context,” he said at an event in June.
Mr Emhoff has focused on justice and legal access in his role, as well as family issues and the goals of the Biden administration.
He has been a distinguished visitor and as a distinguished fellow at Georgetown University's Institute for Technology Law and Policy since 2020.
The couple live at the Vice President's residence, Number One Observatory Circle, in Washington. They also have houses in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Mr Emhoff will now campaign for Ms Harris and rebuff challenges by Republican candidate Donald Trump.
When asked about recent attacks by the Trump campaign against his wife, he said on Tuesday: “That’s all he’s got?”
