Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority is fining lorry drivers up to Dh200,000 for parking illegally on the emirate's main roads.

The crackdown comes from a new campaign to ensure lorry drivers comply with regulations. Lorry drivers are urged to use designated rest areas when stopping, rather than causing obstructions which can lead to the build-up of heavy traffic.

The RTA is carrying out inspections to ensure that lorry drivers comply with the rules.

“The inspection campaigns undertaken by RTA aim primarily to regulate activities within the right-of-way, protect public facilities and infrastructure, and safeguard the road from unauthorised practices,” said Arif Shakri, RTA director of right-of-way.

“The RTA will continue to carry out these campaigns on a regular basis, alongside unannounced inspections, to identify violations and take action against those obstructing the right-of-way across the emirate.”

The transport authority has 14 lorry stops across the emirate for drivers, added Mr Shakri.

“Penalties start at Dh5,000 and may be doubled in repeated or serious cases, reaching up to Dh200,000 depending on the nature of the violation and its impact on safety and traffic flow,” said Mr Shakri.
