Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, approved a plan for 152 new public parks in the emirate.

The parks will be situated across the Madinat Latifa and Al Yalayis areas, with a maximum walking distance of 150 metres to the nearest park, Dubai Government Media Office reported.

More than 33km of cycling paths will also be added, as part of the urban planning model announced on Monday. The project supports the 20-minute city, introducing community parks as an interconnected network of central green spaces.

"Citizen welfare and family empowerment form the foundation of Dubai’s future plans, driving efforts to make it the best, most beautiful and most advanced city in the world," the media office quoted Sheikh Hamdan as saying.

"This model focuses on creating socially interconnected, service-integrated communities that enhance quality of life through homes, neighbourhoods, parks, schools and their service centres.”
