Celebrate China at Hakkasan
Chinese Golden Week kicked off at Hakkasan Abu Dhabi earlier this week, which means that until October 7, those with a taste for Cantonese food can enjoy a specially crafted menu designed by Hakkasan’s Michelin-starred executive chef Tong Chee Hwee, as a nod to the founding of the Republic of China in 1949. The three-course meal features Hakkasan’s favourites, including Peking duck with braised quail’s egg. Book yourself in for Dh398 per person and celebrate. For more, go to www.hakkasan.ae.

Head to a bash on the beach
There’s an exciting new festival lighting up the A’l Bahar precinct along the Abu Dhabi Corniche this weekend. The Beach Bash features more than 115 interactive performances, with A’l Bahar transformed into a street fest with electrifying live entertainment, interactive games and a cool range of al fresco dining options. So if you’re looking for something to do with the whole family, head to the new area by the Nation Riviera Beach Club from 3pm on Friday and Saturday.

Get a taste of South Africa
Join celebrated foodie Martha William at Vasco’s restaurant at the Hilton Hotel Abu Dhabi between now and October 6 and you’ll get to enjoy a taste of some of the best South African cuisine, as Williams shares the culinary roots of the Cape Malay community. The dishes you’ll be eating are unique to the Western Cape, and plates include bobotie (a baked beef-mince dish using spices that’s topped with egg) and pickled fish (firm white fish typically pickled using curry spices). For more, or to book, go to

Five Palm Jumeirah gets a drive-through club
There’s a new nightclub in Dubai and we kid you not, you can drive your car right into the action. Yes, that’s right, Five Palm Jumeirah has just opened the Secret Room, the first venue of its kind outside of Moscow. Strategically located out of sight and underground at the five-star hotel, you need to pass through a graffiti-filled corridor to reach the privileged club that’s open from 11pm to 3am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Access is granted via unique fingerprint identification only. Arrive in your ride, and enjoy the latest Hip Hop and R&B tunes.
