All about ‘You’ this weekend

This week, I binge-watched the 10-episode Netflix Original crime drama You starring Penn Badgley as Joe, a bookstore manager who falls in love with a budding young writer, Guinevere Beck (Elizabeth Lail), and goes to dangerous lengths to make her fall in love with him. Some details don't make sense – such as how a young girl living in New York with no money can afford such a big apartment, and why said apartment, which is located on a busy street on the ground floor has no curtains, but it will keep you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what will happen at the next turn. Badgley is fantastic as the creepy narrator, and the prospect of a psycho murderer parading as a seemingly regular guy is honestly, quite scary.

Treat for your mind and body

Dina Ghandour’s Jivamukti yoga classes in Dubai are a real highlight. Her 90-minute Saturday session at the Yoga House in The Greens is particularly popular, as the founder of yApparel leads you through chants, asanas and meditation. Jivamukti is from New York and cleverly interjects yoga’s spiritual foundations in a modern-day class that’ll still get you sweating. Essentially, it’s a treat for your soul, mind and body. And a post-workout acai bowl at Arrows & Sparrows, which is located in the same building, doesn’t go amiss, either.

Have a ball at the Asian Cup

Experience the exciting atmosphere of the AFC Asian Cup by heading to a game. As the last few weeks of the football tournament roll out, watch a quarter-final match to see some of the best football players in the region compete. On Friday, South Korea will play Qatar at Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi at 5pm, while the UAE will battle it out against Australia at 8pm at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain. The home team will have a chance to avenge their 2015 Asian Cup semi-final loss to the Socceroos.

The DIFC restaurant has been popular among Dubai’s carnivorous community since opening last February, but it’s set to get even busier now that a cosy terrace has opened. Take full advantage of the cooler months and dine al fresco on the tree-lined deck. The Monte Carlo-born restaurant is known for serving up some of the best cuts of meat in the UAE, some of which are on display in the large butcher’s fridges the moment you step in. Not necessarily the best choice for vegetarian or vegan friends, but the Kobe gyozas and fillet mignon steaks are sure to go down a treat for any meat-eaters. The truffle fries with Parmesan and rosemary are another must-try.
