Try the new facial treatment that claims to defeat the ageing process

If you hanker after smoother, plumper, tauter skin minus the invasive procedure, Raffles hotel in Dubai might have the answer. We get the lowdown on the new anti-ageing K-Lift facial from the spa's director Genivieve Ainsworth.

The science part ….

"It's an intense rejuvenation treatment with three phases to help 're-educate' the cells. There are three modalities of kinetic energy - or energy in motion - working in harmony with the body's natural energy and targeting the underlying causes associated with ageing. They are: visible light energy, electron energy and magnetic energy."

What it will address ….

"The treatment lifts, firms and smooths the skin. It is also a great way to help to treat dehydration, premature ageing and sun damage by stimulating your own skin to work harder and prevent or treat the signs of ageing that are typical of the climate we live in. All this is done without increasing sensitivity or risking any further damage to your skin."

How it feels …

"Very relaxing. For the majority it's a chance for a quick nap! When the therapist starts to use the machine you may feel a little tingle and some warmth on your skin but it is a cool light so the warmth is due to the increase in your own blood circulation. If you have a lot of fillings in your teeth you may have a little bit of a metallic taste in your mouth. We also have a signature facial with K-Lifting and decadent, protein-rich caviar. Its powerful antioxidants infuse the skin with age-defying nutrients to smooth fine lines and improve texture. During the 120 minutes you'll also be treated to a Marine Biomatrix mask which infuses the skin with moisturisers to dramatically calm and promote even skin tone."

Better than a facelift because ….

"There are no side effects or 'down time'. You will look great at the end of your treatment and be able to go straight out to meet friends. It will improve your skin's elasticity, promote skin regeneration and re-mineralisation while providing essential antioxidant protection. The facial 'reprogrammes' your skin to start working hard again and produce its own natural collagen. You will achieve longer-lasting effects with minimum maintenance."

Instant gratification …

"You can expect to see results immediately after the lifting and toning of your facial contours. You will experience 'juicy', plump skin due to the increase in collagen production, a reduction of lines and wrinkles as well as younger, healthier-looking skin."

Suits you madam …

"Under-25s in general don't need any help as they look fantastic anyway. K-Lift is something you should consider as you approach or are over 30 as this is when the skin starts to need extra help. However, if you have lots of dental work or a bridge we don't recommend this facial for you. Also, if you're pregnant this is not the right time for K-Lift as your system will be busy making lots of extra collagen for you and your baby. You should be glowing without any help. Separately, any history of cancer, especially skin cancer, needs to be treated with caution. We would need to first have a consultation with you to recommend the best facial treatment and what you are hoping to achieve before stimulating the skin and using light therapy."

Common OCD symptoms and how they manifest

Checking: the obsession or thoughts focus on some harm coming from things not being as they should, which usually centre around the theme of safety. For example, the obsession is “the building will burn down”, therefore the compulsion is checking that the oven is switched off.

Contamination: the obsession is focused on the presence of germs, dirt or harmful bacteria and how this will impact the person and/or their loved ones. For example, the obsession is “the floor is dirty; me and my family will get sick and die”, the compulsion is repetitive cleaning.

Orderliness: the obsession is a fear of sitting with uncomfortable feelings, or to prevent harm coming to oneself or others. Objectively there appears to be no logical link between the obsession and compulsion. For example,” I won’t feel right if the jars aren’t lined up” or “harm will come to my family if I don’t line up all the jars”, so the compulsion is therefore lining up the jars.

Intrusive thoughts: the intrusive thought is usually highly distressing and repetitive. Common examples may include thoughts of perpetrating violence towards others, harming others, or questions over one’s character or deeds, usually in conflict with the person’s true values. An example would be: “I think I might hurt my family”, which in turn leads to the compulsion of avoiding social gatherings.

Hoarding: the intrusive thought is the overvaluing of objects or possessions, while the compulsion is stashing or hoarding these items and refusing to let them go. For example, “this newspaper may come in useful one day”, therefore, the compulsion is hoarding newspapers instead of discarding them the next day.
